Don't believe everything you hear about asylums...
With every taboo subject comes many myths. There are many myths out there about what truly happens within asylums. Many movies and stories include things like straight jackets, means to escape and, calling it a “prison for the insane”. Those things are rarely used inside asylums. Straight jackets are a form of restriction used as a last case scenario effort. Many patients are truly diagnosed with something serious enough to be put into a place like an asylum. But, with every correct diagnosis comes wrong diagnosis’. Many people are put into asylums with no medical background check or even paperwork. It’s 1937 and more tests are coming out and being used on patients, because there is a lack of restriction to this day in asylums.
Myth: I used a myth to show how deep my research went. This is important because using a myth further shows how “right” my point can be. I used personal past research, some conspirises and https://www.theodysseyonline.com/6-mental-hospital-myths-told-entertainment-industry.

Why I made this website:
Hi. I'm Emily. I've decided to make a website showing all of my research I did within the walls of the Northwest asylum. I delved into the life of 4 people and gathered a lot of information regarding bad treatment within the asylum, misdiagnosis and personality traits of the patients. I collected writing and personal things. I went into this asylum wanting to change the lives of these patients that I met with and dive into the life they live and grow a broad understanding of who these people really are. I chose this asylum because I read multiple news reports on the overwhelming amount of people being admitted. Looking at the fact that this asylum accepts almost every patient with little to no information about these patients, theres bound to be people who truly do not belong there. Thats why I chose these specific few people to find out more about. These 4 people were accepted into the asylum with no medical intake form and they began to think they were crazy and went crazy. These people's families have abandoned them. They had to pay a lot of money to be able to admit their children and be able to keep them there until they say other wise. search has opened the eyes of many close minded people and i hope it will open yours too.
